What does Pale Eucalypt look like?
BlueScope calls it versatile, calming and muted, recalling native eucalypts. It's lighter and greyer than Cottage Green, and more obviously green than Woodland Grey. BlueScope suggests warm timber, mixed stone and pale neutral brick or cladding.
Its palettes use Pale Eucalypt as the fresh accent on an Evening Haze home, or pair it with Basalt Matt. It tends to suit farmhouses, mud-brick and timber homes, and modern builds that sit in a bush setting.
Matching the tank, shed and fence
BlueScope lists Pale Eucalypt for roofing, walls, gutters, sheds and water tanks, and it's part of the Colorbond fence range. On a rural block, carrying one colour across the house, shed, tank and fence stops the buildings looking like a patchwork.
Heat and bushfire areas
Its published solar absorptance is 0.60, which BlueScope's thresholds put in the medium band. Because that's below 0.64, a new home in zones 1 to 5 can stick with the elemental checklist rather than a full NatHERS rating.
BlueScope says Colorbond roofing, walls and gutters can be part of a compliant system in bushfire-prone areas, up to BAL-FZ under AS 3959:2018. It's the whole system that has to meet your site's rating, including sarking, gaps and gutters, so ask about ember guard too.
Seeing a sample
Look at the sample against your trees and paddocks, not just the walls. A green that looks right on a white bench can look too bright or too grey once the bush is behind it. Pale Eucalypt isn't made in Ultra, so check your distance if the block is near breaking surf.
If you're on a bush block
We'd shortlist Pale Eucalypt and Woodland Grey and hold both sheets up with the bush behind them. Pale Eucalypt runs cooler; Woodland Grey is darker and disappears into shade. Either way, we'd tie the tank and shed to the roof. Colorbond belongs to BlueScope, and we have no affiliation with it.
