About us

Editorial policyHow we write and check these pages.

Every page on this site is written to help someone with a roof problem make a good decision. We only publish facts we can point to a source for, we date every page, and we list our sources at the bottom of it.

Where our numbers come from

Every figure on this site, from rainfall to licence thresholds, comes from a published source, and we list our sources on the page. We don't invent numbers or round them into something that looks more precise than it is. We don't publish roofing prices: every roof is different, and the roofer quotes after seeing yours.

Rules about licences, home warranty insurance and asbestos come from the state regulators' own websites. Weather and storm facts come from the Bureau of Meteorology and emergency services.

Advice comes first

Our guides never name or recommend a roofer, and nobody can buy a mention in them. When a job isn't worth doing, we say so. When something is safe to do yourself, we say that too, even though it means nobody needs a roofer.

We don't write as if we're roofers. We're not. Where a job needs a licensed tradesperson, we say so.

Safety

We never tell anyone to get on a roof. Where a guide touches asbestos, electrics, storms or working at height, the safety advice comes first.

Keeping pages current

Every page shows the date it was last updated. We review rule pages when a regulator changes something, and other pages when their sources update.
