Roofers in BrisbaneBuilt for storm season, under a lot of sun.
Brisbane roofs work hardest in summer. Storm season runs from November to March, bringing large hail, torrential rain and destructive winds, and February is the wettest month on average. Tell us the job and your postcode. If we have a roofer for your area who specialises in that job, we match you with them, and if we don't, we tell you straight away.

What's different about roofs in Brisbane
Summer storms do most of the damage
Severe thunderstorms between November and March bring big hail and destructive winds. The supercell of 27 November 2014 gusted up to 144 km/h, dropped hail described as tennis-ball sized and damaged at least 22,000 homes. A 2005 study ranked the 1985 Brisbane hailstorm among Australia's ten largest insured losses from 1967 to 2005.
Hail size changes from suburb to suburb
In the Halloween storms of 31 October 2020, hail reached 5 cm at Seventeen Mile Rocks and 14 cm at Forestdale. Don't assume your roof is fine because the neighbours' is.
Wetter near the coast than out west
The Bureau of Meteorology's city centre station averages 1,048.2 mm of rain a year, and coastal Brisbane Airport is close behind at 1,046.3 mm. Inland it drops away: Archerfield averages 915.8 mm and Amberley, near Ipswich, 750.3 mm. Wetter roofs grow more moss and block gutters more often.
A cyclone reached Brisbane in 2025
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred brought Brisbane its first tropical cyclone warning since Cyclone Nancy in February 1990. Alfred crossed Moreton Island as a Category 1 system on 8 March 2025, then weakened over Bribie Island before reaching the mainland that night. It's rare here, but it's a good reason to keep fixings and ridge caps in order.
Timber Queenslanders under tin
Queenslanders are timber houses with big verandahs, high ceilings and gabled corrugated iron roofs, mostly raised on stumps. Corrugated steel suited the torrential rain and could be reused if cyclonic winds damaged it. They're still common, and Brisbane City Council's Traditional building character overlay protects houses substantially built in 1946 or earlier.
Salt within a kilometre of the shore
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority notes the National Construction Code requires homes within one kilometre of the shoreline to use heavily galvanised or stainless steel structural parts. Roofing steel has its own distance rules too, so on a waterfront home, ask which grade suits your spot before you choose a new roof.
The roofing jobs Brisbane homeowners ask for most
Storm and hail repairs. Cracked tiles, dented or lifted sheets, loose ridge caps and bent flashings after a summer cell has been through. Start with roof repairs in Brisbane.
Leaks in summer downpours. The city centre averages 181.9 mm in February alone, and that's when cracked tiles and tired flashings give themselves away. See roof leak repair in Brisbane.
Re-sheeting or repainting old tin roofs. When the corrugated roof on an older timber home is rusting, the choice is repaint or replace. See Colorbond roofing in Brisbane and roof painting in Brisbane.
Gutters before the storms. Clear gutters and valleys let a downpour run off instead of backing up under the roof. See gutter cleaning in Brisbane.
Restoring tiled roofs. Where the tiles are sound but the ridge mortar and coating are worn, a restoration usually beats a new roof. See roof restoration in Brisbane.
Older houses and council rules
If your house was built before 1947, talk to council before changing how the roof looks. Under Brisbane City Plan 2014, in certain circumstances, pre-1947 buildings are to be kept, with alterations that complement the traditional style, and pre-1911 parts are to stay as they are.
In Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay or Redland, ask your own council about any character or heritage controls first.
Who's allowed to work on your roof in Queensland
Building work valued over $3,300, counting labour, materials and GST, needs a QBCC licence of the right class. Roof cladding, roof tiling, metal fascias and gutters, and plumbing and drainage are separate classes, and plumbing needs a licence whatever the value. Search the roofer's name or licence number on the QBCC licensee register, or call the QBCC on 139 333. Work over that amount also needs a written contract and home warranty cover.
We're a referral service, not a roofing company. We pass jobs to licence-checked local roofers where we have them: one roofer per job, who calls you and quotes. If nobody suits your area yet, we tell you straight away. Here's how it works.
If a storm has just come through
Stay out of any room where the ceiling is sagging. If water is near lights or power points, switch the power off at the switchboard. For storm damage emergencies, call the SES on 132 500, and leave the roof itself to a roofer once the weather has cleared.
What we'd do before summer
We'd have the gutters and valleys cleared in October, before storm season, and get any loose ridge caps or lifted sheets fixed at the same time. After a hailstorm, we'd take photos from the ground and ring the insurer before letting anyone up there. And on a house built before 1947, we'd check with council before settling on a new roof colour or material.
