What Armadale's setting means for roofs
Bushland close by
Bungendore Park, Wungong Gorge, Armadale Settlers Common and the Canning, Churchman Brook and Wungong dams are all nearby. Neerigin Brook comes out of the Darling Range right at Armadale, and farms were set up along the foothill brooks in the 1840s.
The 2011 fire
On 6 February 2011 a bushfire in Roleystone and Kelmscott, also in the City of Armadale, destroyed 69 homes and badly damaged another 71.
A council deadline for gutters
The City's Firebreak and Hazard Reduction Notice covers lots of every size. Gutters, roofs and walls of habitable buildings must be kept free of inflammable matter from 30 November 2026 up to and including 31 March 2027.
Post-war growth
The railway arrived in 1889, but growth sped up after World War Two, with Dutch migrant families settling from 1951 and the senior high school opening in 1955. In 2021, 67.4% of occupied homes were separate houses and 30.7% townhouses or similar.
Jobs worth booking in Armadale, and when
A gutter clean before the end of November is the obvious one. It keeps you on the right side of the notice, and dry leaves sitting in a gutter are exactly where embers settle. Booking early in spring gives you room if the first date falls through.

Branches over the roof drop leaves straight back in. A tree service can prune anything you can't reach from the ground.
Keep it clear until March
The notice runs to 31 March 2027, so one clean in spring may not last through a windy summer.
Our advice for an Armadale roof
